ASKKTM. I have been heavily interested in the KTM Duke 390 for awhile because it seems like a good beginner bike, only thing stopping me from purchasing one is I keep hearing about reliability issues. Although I also hear some peoples run forever.
I had the same issue, but solved it. (KTM 890 Adventure - iphone ios 16.4 - Sena 50S) 1. Connect your phone with the Sena. 2. Change in the bluetooth connection in the phone. phone Sena device type to Heraring Aid. 3. Connect the KTM to the phone. Connect in the KTM screen mobile device.
It was only subject to one recall, but there were just so many issues with these 790 engines. Via ktm.com The Austrian giant was forced to go back to the drawing board, cut its losses and discontinue this version of the engine after only a couple of years in production, and replacing it with the uprated but otherwise identical 890 engine .
Just bought an 890 adventure couple weeks ago. Also just learned about the reducing oil jet inspection, cleaning and/or removal. My local dealer wants ~$476 for the 600 mile service. I am sure I can accomplish most of the checklist but concerned about getting the jet out without complications.
The 1st 1/2 turn is just taking up the slack in the system, so when you are thinking it stops, is where is actually starts compressing the spring. Have some Wheaties for breakfast and put some effort into it. Lastly, if you have trouble counting the number of turns, you might have more serious issues than adding preload to your new bike.
My 2020 790 R recently crossed 2000 kms, and its now overheating badly on anything mildly technical . It was 14° (C) today, and the bike stopped multiple times (on hill climbs) due to overheating. For context, I've ridden the same trails (for years) on my 990 in much higher temps (+30 C°) and never had an issue. View attachment 2237503
It is just a simple interface between the bulkhead (filter plate) and the splash guard. When the parts are trimmed to fit, there is a go-no-go fixture that they have to fit on to pass inspection at the factory. The fabricators typically open this up a tiny bit more so there won't be any fitment issues.
Traded in my Honda 250 Rally for a ‘20 790 Adventure R. The Honda was fine. Dependable. Meh. The KTM is just a different beast altogether. So much more fun to ride and absolutely no issues beyond having to tighten a clamp and open up a fuel line. Newer KTMs work great and they have a ton of personality. That 1290 is beautiful.
Concerns regarding KTM 790 Duke reliability. I've been considering a 790 Duke for quite some time now, having ridden one this summer courtesy of a friend and realizing how fun of a bike it is. My question is: Realistically, how problematic are these bikes in general considering that you buy one with decent service history and keep up with
technical problems KTM 790 adventure. I have a lot of problems with my KTM adventure 790 which I bought brand new last December (now 9000 km) . It started with my rear brakes which happened to be a known one and finished with a general recall and took months to execute. Then had a deficient side stand which was changed under warranty.
The 890 Adventure R’s are a great bike to ride, best in the category for performance, handling, suspension. Sadly the reliability and KTM aftercare is a liability. Once my cams are fixed I am selling it and won’t buy a KTM again unless they acknowledge the issues and say they are fixed.
From what I’ve gathered so far, it seems to be an underlying issue w/ the shock itself. I thought the heat theory was a good one at 1st, but after some more digging, I think it’s some kind of a defect. Hopefully you get the data you need to come up w/ the correct answer & KTM will fix the issue. Thanks for all of your the 790 faq work!
If the bike is full (i.e. you can see fuel when you open the gas cap) you can rule out fuel issues, though check the right petcock is open anyway. Immobiliser issues are common to both the 790/890 Duke and Adventure. If they happen it is usually in the first few hundred or first few thousand miles. #7.
xplor pro comes on the rally not the R. R comes with xplor -not pro. i run tractive extreme on an r1200gs and as 300mm rear shock on a 2021 ktm 690. i find that tractive makes high quality and high performance components. i have xplor pro on the 790 rally. xplor pro is outstanding. if you don't mind the expense, get the xplor pro with cone valves.
